About me, Lucia

Hi! I'm Lucia Ponce Laresgoiti, a designer, maker, and lifelong learner. I grew up in Mexico City and moved to Vancouver in 2018 to pursue a Bachelor of Industrial Design at Emily Carr University.

I graduated in 2022, and since then, my path has taken a few exciting turns (and maybe a detour or two), each one shaping who I am as a designer. I had the opportunity to intern at Burton Snowboards and then worked briefly as a Junior Industrial Designer at Point One Displays. Driven by my interest in soft goods and sports equipment, I completed a Virtual Fashion Design certificate at Parsons and was later accepted into the Master’s in Sports Product Design at the University of Oregon, a dream opportunity I ultimately chose not to pursue due to personal circumstances. That decision became a meaningful turning point; it pushed me to find a career path that suits both my interests and the life I want.

I then completed a UX Design certificate at the University of Toronto, further expanding my design skill set. What followed was an unforgettable winter as a snowboard instructor at Mont Tremblant, a role that reinforced my love for teaching and coaching. Soon after, I interned at Moldex (Grupo Bimbo) near Mexico City, where I reconnected with family and gained a new perspective on retail product display design, even developing a job aid to assist industrial designers in integrating lighting into their displays.

Reflecting on my journey, I can trace a clear thread through all these experiences. From my very first university project designing a learning tool to guiding snowboarders on the slopes and creating a job aid for designers at Moldex, I realized that education, particularly instructional design, was where my interests truly converged.

I’m currently based in Montreal, pursuing a Master’s in Educational Technology at Concordia University, where I’m exploring how design can support learning, performance, and sustainable change. Along the way, I also became nearly trilingual, speaking Spanish and English while gradually adding French to the mix.

Curiosity is at the core of everything I do. (If you ever peered at my YouTube feed, you’d understand.) I love learning, observing, and making sense of how people interact with the world. Drawing, especially with watercolors or a fountain pen, is one of my favorite ways to unwind. I’ve also dabbled in ceramics- mostly throwing cups, plates, and pots- and even knitted a few scarves that are wearable if you don’t look too closely.

In my free time, you’ll likely find me outdoors. I’m happiest near water, paddleboarding, wing foiling, or simply floating in a lake. During the warmer months, I bike around the city or explore gravel trails in the mountains. In winter, it’s all about snowboarding, skating, and the occasional hockey game. I also enjoy discovering new neighborhoods, visiting museums, and searching for that perfect hidden restaurant.

I share my life with two gentle giants, our family’s Newfoundland dogs, whom I walk often and love like the big, fluffy bears they are.
